Enjoy Delicious Italian Food….And Keep In Shape

by admin on May 22, 2012

We think you may already have guessed it from the photo that adorns the home page of our site, but, if not, we confess we are great fans of Italy when it comes to holidaying. It’s the combination of culture, food, wine and weather that make it hard to beat. The only problem is that returning from a vacation in Italy usually means you will have to start out on a diet to get yourself back in shape after all that pasta, ice cream and vino.

But what if you could incorporate all the things you love about your traditional Italian holiday with a little gentle exercise to help keep in shape? Wouldn’t that be the best of both worlds? Well, now you can with a fabulous biking holiday to Piedmont. If you’re not sure of your geography, Piedmont is to the north of Tuscany, stretching up to the foot of the Italian Alps which gives the region its name- Pied Mont…..foot of the mountains.

It is home to many delicous Italian delicacies such as truffles, cheese, luxurious chocolates and Barolo, arguably the king of Italian wines.

These cycle tours can  involves a reasonable amount of effort with runs of up to twenty six miles each day, so check carefully if you’re not sure you are up to it,  but if you are, the effort simply makes the rewards all the more enjoyable.  Autumn is the perfect time to try it out – the weather is a little cooler and the truffles, porcini mushrooms and fresh nuts are just in season. Just don’t overdo the Grappa on one of your overnight stops – cycling with a hangover is not much fun!
